Our Story

Thirty years ago, our church started with a unique vision to reach the people our society neglects. This group of 9 people met in a basement, threw their life savings together and started meeting in a barn.

In the beginning, they didn’t have many resources, the lighting consisted of one desk lamp shining on the stage, a boom box provided the music, and a kerosene heater kept the barn warm.  They all sacrificed, and God multiplied their gifts to bring us to where we are today.

The mission of our church is to Reach our City, Restore the Broken, and Release with Purpose.  The more that we’ve focused on God and His mission, the stronger we’ve become.  Our vision is to spread the gospel by releasing people to start up additional campuses throughout Muskegon County so that we can reach a broader area.

In 2020, we launched our McGraft to actively serve the Nims, Lakeside, Glenside and Pinchtown neighborhoods  This is just the start of us becoming one church in multiple locations.

In 2020 we started a “What if? Vision campaign and asked the question: What if our church showed Muskegon how compassionate our God is? What if our church mobilized our gifts and resources to impact the next generation for all of eternity?

Through partnerships with local schools and area ministries like Love INC, Compassionate Christian Counseling and Dune Grass Therapy for Kids we will be providing our communities a hub.  Port City will help address immediate needs as well as provide classes to learn budgeting, nutrition, parenting and other core skills to equip them for the future!
